No referral needed, direct billing available. Book online. **How long is a first visit?** A first chiropractic visit usually takes about 20 to 30 minutes. A first physiotherapy visit takes about 40 to 45 minutes. Both start with your history and an assessment, then a plan you make together with your practitioner. **Do I need a referral to book an appointment?** No referral is required. You can book online or call us, and our front desk will help you find the right practitioner for what you're dealing with. **Do you offer direct billing?** Yes, we direct bill most major insurance providers for eligible plans. If you're unsure about your coverage, our team can help you check your benefits before your visit. **Is it normal to feel sore after a first visit?** Yes. Feeling a little sore for 24 to 48 hours is common, because your body is being moved and assessed in ways it isn't used to. **Which location should I book at?** We have two Abbotsford clinics: McCallum Road and Ventura Avenue. Both have free parking and wheelchair access. If you're unsure which suits you, our team will help when you book. **Can I see more than one type of practitioner?** Yes. Your physiotherapist, chiropractor, massage therapist and kinesiologist can work together on your care, and they talk to each other about your case before handing you over. ### [About Altus Integrated Health](https://altusintegratedhealth.com/about/) Altus Integrated Health, formerly ALTUS Chiropractic and Physiotherapy, is owned by sisters Dr. Trang Luu-Grover and An Luu. Meet the clinic. ### [Chiropractor in Abbotsford](https://altusintegratedhealth.com/chiropractic/) Chiropractor in Abbotsford at two clinics: assessment, adjustments and gentler options, with five chiropractors. No referral needed. Book online. **What does a chiropractor do?** A chiropractor assesses and treats problems with the spine, joints and the muscles around them. Treatment combines adjustments and mobilization with soft-tissue work and exercise. Chiropractors in BC hold a Doctor of Chiropractic degree and refer you on when findings fall outside their scope. **What is the popping sound during an adjustment?** It's gas being released from the fluid inside a joint as it moves. Nothing cracks or breaks. The sound seems louder in the neck because your neck is close to your ear, not because the adjustment is stronger. **Do I have to get my neck cracked?** No. Adjustments are one option among several. Mobilization and soft-tissue techniques such as Active Release Technique treat the neck without the popping sound. Your chiropractor talks through the options first and changes approach whenever you're uncomfortable. **Is it normal to feel sore after seeing a chiropractor?** Yes. Mild soreness for a day or two after a visit is common, especially after the first one, because your joints and muscles are moving in ways they aren't used to. If pain keeps increasing, or you notice new numbness or weakness, call the clinic. **How many chiropractic visits will I need?** It depends on how long you've had the problem, what's causing it, and your age and health. Recent problems usually improve faster than ones that have lasted months. After your assessment, your chiropractor gives you an estimate and reviews it as you progress. **Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor in BC?** No. Chiropractors in BC see patients directly, so you can book without a doctor's referral. Some extended health plans have their own rules for claims, so check your plan before your first visit. ### [Concussion and vertigo physiotherapy in Abbotsford](https://altusintegratedhealth.com/concussion-vestibular/) Concussion and vertigo physiotherapy in Abbotsford: assessment of dizziness, balance and head injury symptoms, then a graded plan. No referral needed. **Can physiotherapy help with vertigo?** Physiotherapy is a standard part of care for many types of vertigo and dizziness. For BPPV, the most common cause of vertigo when you move your head, a physiotherapist finds the affected inner ear canal with positional tests and uses repositioning maneuvers. For other vestibular problems, targeted exercises retrain balance and steady vision. Assessment comes first, because some causes of dizziness need a doctor instead. **Can physiotherapy help after a concussion?** When concussion symptoms linger, they usually have several sources: the inner ear, eye movements, the neck and tolerance for exercise. Our physiotherapist tests each of these and builds a graded plan for the ones involved, alongside your doctor's care. **What is BPPV?** Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is brief spinning, usually under a minute, triggered by changes in head position such as rolling over in bed or looking up. It happens when small calcium crystals in the inner ear move into one of the canals that sense rotation. **Should I rest in a dark room after a concussion?** Not for long. Current international guidance advises a short period of relative rest, about 24 to 48 hours, then a gradual return to light activity that doesn't make your symptoms much worse. Long periods of complete rest are no longer recommended. **Do I need a referral?** No. Physiotherapy in BC is direct access, so you can book without a referral. After a head injury, it's still important to see a doctor, especially in the first few days. Some extended health plans have their own referral rules for reimbursement. **Is concussion or vestibular physiotherapy covered?** It's physiotherapy, so extended health plans that cover physiotherapy usually apply, up to your plan's limits. We direct bill most major insurance providers for eligible plans. If your concussion or dizziness followed a car crash, we bill ICBC directly for physiotherapy. ### [Contact us](https://altusintegratedhealth.com/contact/) Call (604) 853-3212, email us or book online. Two Abbotsford clinics on McCallum Road and Ventura Avenue, with free parking. Hours and directions. ### [Direct billing and insurance](https://altusintegratedhealth.com/direct-billing/) Direct billing in Abbotsford: we bill 21 extended health insurers for eligible plans, plus ICBC, WorkSafeBC and MSP. See the list and what to bring. **Does MSP cover physiotherapy, chiropractic and massage?** Only for eligible BC residents. MSP supplementary benefits pay $23 per visit toward physiotherapy, chiropractic, massage therapy and some other services, up to a combined 10 visits each calendar year, for families with an adjusted net income under $42,000 and some people receiving assistance. You pay the rest of the fee. We bill MSP on your behalf for eligible patients. **What is direct billing?** We send your claim to your insurer during your visit. Your insurer pays its share to us, and you pay only what your plan doesn't cover, rather than paying the full fee and waiting to be reimbursed. **Does direct billing mean my visit is free?** Not always. Direct billing changes who sends the claim, not what your plan pays. You still pay anything above your plan's per-visit or yearly limits, or its coinsurance share. **Do I need a referral for my insurance to pay?** You don't need a referral to book physiotherapy, chiropractic, massage therapy or kinesiology. Some plans need a doctor's referral before they pay, most often for massage therapy, so check your plan first. **What if my insurer isn't on your list?** You pay at your visit and submit the claim to your insurer yourself, and they reimburse you under your plan's terms. Our front desk can tell you whether we bill your insurer directly. **Do you bill WorkSafeBC for massage therapy?** No. We bill WorkSafeBC on your behalf for chiropractic and physiotherapy on accepted claims only. **What happens if I cancel late or miss an appointment?** We ask for 24 hours' notice to cancel or change an appointment. Less than 24 hours' notice, or a missed appointment, is charged a cancellation fee. ### [Frequently asked questions](https://altusintegratedhealth.com/faq/) Answers about booking, referrals, direct billing, ICBC, what to bring, our services and our two Abbotsford clinics. Call us if your question isn't here. **Do I need a referral to book?** No. You can book physiotherapy, chiropractic, massage therapy or kinesiology directly, online or by phone. Some extended health plans need a doctor's referral before they reimburse a claim, so check your plan before your first visit. **How do I know which practitioner to see?** Start with our services page, which matches common situations to the right care. If you're still unsure, call us: our front desk helps people choose every day, and checks with our practitioners when a case could go either way. **Can I see more than one type of practitioner?** Yes. Our practitioners share notes and co-treat when it helps. If your physiotherapist thinks an adjustment would help, they talk to one of our chiropractors about your case before you see them. **How long is a first visit?** A first chiropractic visit usually takes about 20 to 30 minutes, and a first physiotherapy visit about 40 to 45 minutes. Both start with your history and an assessment, then a plan you agree on. **What should I bring to my first visit?** Government-issued photo ID, your extended health benefits card or policy details, and your claim number and case manager's details if it's an ICBC or WorkSafeBC claim. Copies of relevant X-ray, MRI or CT reports and a list of your medications help too. Wear loose, comfortable clothing, and bring running shoes or the footwear you wear when your pain starts. **Is it normal to be sore after a first visit?** Yes. Feeling a little sore for 24 to 48 hours is common, because your body is being moved and assessed in ways it isn't used to. If soreness keeps building past two days, or you notice new numbness or weakness, call us. **How many visits will I need?** It depends on the problem, how long you've had it and how consistently you do your home exercises. Your practitioner gives you a realistic estimate after your first assessment and adjusts it as you progress. **Do you direct bill?** Yes. We direct bill 21 extended health insurers for eligible plans, including Pacific Blue Cross, GreenShield, Manulife, Canada Life and Sun Life. See the full list. **How much does a visit cost?** Fees vary by service, so we confirm them when you book. Some treatments, such as dry needling and shockwave therapy, cost more than a standard physiotherapy visit. **Do you bill ICBC?** Yes, for physiotherapy, chiropractic, massage therapy and kinesiology. ICBC pre-approves treatment for the first 12 weeks after a crash, with no referral needed. More about ICBC treatment. **Do you bill WorkSafeBC?** Yes, for chiropractic and physiotherapy on accepted claims. We don't bill WorkSafeBC for massage therapy or kinesiology. **Does MSP cover any of my treatment?** For eligible BC residents, MSP supplementary benefits pay $23 per visit toward physiotherapy, chiropractic and massage therapy, up to a combined 10 visits each calendar year. Eligibility depends on income or on receiving certain assistance. We bill MSP on your behalf for eligible patients. **What is your cancellation policy?** We ask for 24 hours' notice to cancel or change an appointment. Less than 24 hours' notice, or a missed appointment, is charged a cancellation fee. **What services do you offer?** Chiropractic, physiotherapy, registered massage therapy and kinesiology, plus IMS and dry needling, concussion and vestibular physiotherapy, shockwave, laser, ultrasound, electrotherapy and cupping, prenatal and postnatal massage, lymphatic drainage, hot stone massage, pediatric chiropractic, fascial stretch therapy, pre- and post-surgery rehab, and custom orthotics and pillows. **Do you offer acupuncture?** No, we don't offer acupuncture. Our physiotherapists do offer IMS and dry needling, which uses similar needles but is a different treatment, based on a physiotherapy assessment. **Do you offer pelvic floor physiotherapy?** No, we don't offer pelvic floor physiotherapy. **Do you offer spinal decompression or traction?** No, we don't offer spinal decompression or traction. **Do you treat children?** Yes. Our chiropractors offer pediatric chiropractic care. Tell us your child's age when you book, and we'll match you with the right practitioner. **I'm nervous about getting adjusted. Do I have to be?** No. Our chiropractors explain everything first, and gentler options such as mobilization and Active Release Technique treat the same areas without the pop. **Do you offer emergency treatment?** No. We're not an emergency clinic. For a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. **Where are your clinics?** We have two clinics in Abbotsford: 2168 McCallum Rd #8 and 32920 Ventura Ave #101. Our Ventura Avenue clinic still carries the ALTUS Chiropractic and Physiotherapy name for now. **What are your hours?** McCallum Road is open Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. Ventura Avenue is open Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 6:30 pm, and Saturday, 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Both are closed on Sunday. **Is there parking, and are the clinics accessible?** Yes. Both clinics have free parking and are wheelchair accessible. **Which clinic should I book at?** Whichever suits you. Our practitioners work at both clinics, so call us and we'll find the right practitioner at a time and location that works for you. **What languages do your practitioners speak?** Besides English, our team speaks Punjabi, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Cantonese, Spanish and Tagalog. Ask for a practitioner who speaks your language when you book. See who speaks what. ### [Guides](https://altusintegratedhealth.com/guides/) Plain answers to the questions we hear most about pain, injury and recovery, written by the practitioners at Altus Integrated Health in Abbotsford. ### [What causes TMJ pain, and who should you see for it?](https://altusintegratedhealth.com/guides/what-causes-tmj-pain/) TMJ pain usually starts in the jaw muscles, not the joint. What causes it, what it feels like, when to see a dentist or physio, and what to do first. ### [ICBC treatment in Abbotsford](https://altusintegratedhealth.com/icbc/) ICBC physiotherapy, chiropractic, massage and kinesiology in Abbotsford. No referral needed, and we bill ICBC directly for your claim. Book online. **Does ICBC cover physiotherapy, chiropractic and massage?** Yes. Under Enhanced Care, ICBC pre-approves physiotherapy, chiropractic, registered massage therapy and kinesiology for the first 12 weeks after a crash. You don't need a doctor's referral or ICBC's approval for these sessions, and we bill ICBC directly for all four. **How many treatments does ICBC cover?** ICBC's current list pre-approves up to 25 physiotherapy sessions, 25 chiropractic sessions, 12 massage therapy sessions and 12 kinesiology sessions. They last for 12 weeks from the date of the crash, or until the sessions are used, whichever comes first. Each type of care has its own count, so you can use more than one. **Do I need a referral for ICBC treatment?** No. ICBC states that pre-approved treatments don't need a referral from a doctor or nurse practitioner. You need your ICBC claim number and your Personal Health Number. If you have worrying symptoms, such as a worsening headache or new numbness, see a doctor first. **What should I bring to my first ICBC appointment?** Bring your ICBC claim number, your Personal Health Number, government-issued photo ID and your case manager's contact details if you have them. Copies of any X-ray, MRI or CT reports and a list of your current medications help too. Wear loose, comfortable clothing. **Will I have to pay anything?** We bill ICBC directly for your pre-approved sessions. For massage therapy, your first ICBC visit is fully covered, and later visits carry a user fee (the share of the cost ICBC's rate doesn't include). Our front desk confirms any fee when you book. **Does it matter who caused the crash?** No. Since May 2021, ICBC's Enhanced Care has covered treatment whoever was responsible for the crash. Drivers, passengers, pedestrians and cyclists can all use their pre-approved treatments. **What if I still need treatment after 12 weeks?** Your practitioner assesses what further care would help and can request it from ICBC. ICBC has to approve treatment outside the pre-approved period before it starts, so it's worth raising it with your practitioner before your 12 weeks or your sessions run out. **I was hurt while driving for work. Is that ICBC or WorkSafeBC?** It can be either, or both, depending on your situation. We bill WorkSafeBC on your behalf for chiropractic and physiotherapy on accepted claims. Tell our front desk about both claims when you book, and we'll help you sort out which one applies. ### [IMS and dry needling in Abbotsford](https://altusintegratedhealth.com/ims-dry-needling/) IMS and dry needling in Abbotsford, provided by our physiotherapists as part of a full physio plan. No referral needed. Book online or call us. **Is dry needling the same as acupuncture?** No. Both use thin filament needles, but dry needling follows a physiotherapy assessment and targets tight or sensitive muscle, while acupuncture is based on traditional Chinese medicine's meridian points. In BC, physiotherapists need certification to perform dry needling. We offer dry needling and IMS, but not acupuncture. **What is IMS?** IMS (intramuscular stimulation) is a form of dry needling developed by Dr. C. Chan Gunn in Vancouver. A physiotherapist places a thin needle into shortened, sensitive muscles, both where it hurts and beside the spine at the level of the nerve that supplies the area. It's used alongside exercise and hands-on treatment. **Does dry needling hurt?** Most people feel the needle go in as a small prick, or not at all. When it reaches a tight muscle, a deep ache or a brief twitch of the muscle is common. Your physiotherapist checks in with you throughout, and you can ask them to stop at any time. **Is it normal to be sore after dry needling?** Yes. The needled muscles often ache for a day or two, much like after a hard workout, and a small bruise can appear. Gentle movement and your exercises help. If soreness keeps getting worse, call us. If you feel short of breath or have chest pain, get medical help straight away. **Is dry needling covered by insurance?** When a physiotherapist does it, dry needling is usually claimed as physiotherapy, so coverage depends on your plan's physiotherapy benefit. We direct bill most major insurance providers for eligible plans. Check your plan's wording before your visit. **How much does IMS cost?** IMS and dry needling are priced differently from a standard physiotherapy visit. Fees are confirmed when you book. **Do I need a referral?** No. Physiotherapy in BC is direct access, so you can book without a doctor's referral. Some extended health plans have their own referral rules for reimbursement, so check your plan. ### [Kinesiology and Active Rehab in Abbotsford](https://altusintegratedhealth.com/kinesiology/) Kinesiology in Abbotsford: active rehab, exercise programs and fascial stretch therapy with a BCAK kinesiologist. No referral needed. Book online. **What does a kinesiologist do?** A kinesiologist uses exercise and movement to help you recover function after an injury, surgery or illness. They assess how you move, then build and progress an exercise program aimed at strength, mobility and the activities you need to get back to. **How is a kinesiologist different from a physiotherapist?** A physiotherapist diagnoses and treats injuries using hands-on techniques, exercise and modalities. A kinesiologist focuses on exercise-based rehab and conditioning. At Altus the two often work in sequence, with the kinesiologist building strength once treatment has the problem settling. **What is active rehab?** Active rehab is supervised, progressive exercise that rebuilds strength, mobility and confidence after an injury. It starts from an assessment of what you can do now and moves gradually toward the demands of your work, sport or daily life. **Does ICBC cover kinesiology?** ICBC funds active rehab with a kinesiologist after a crash under its Enhanced Care model, within the limits of your claim. We bill ICBC on your behalf for accepted claims, and our front desk can help you check what applies. **Do I need a referral to see a kinesiologist?** No. You can book a kinesiologist directly. Some insurance plans and claims have their own requirements before they pay, so check your coverage first. ### [Massage therapy in Abbotsford](https://altusintegratedhealth.com/massage-therapy/) Registered massage therapy in Abbotsford at two clinics. Direct billing for eligible plans, and ICBC billed directly. No referral needed. Book online. **Do you direct bill for massage therapy?** Yes. We direct bill 21 extended health insurers for eligible plans, including Pacific Blue Cross, Manulife, Canada Life, Sun Life and GreenShield. We also bill ICBC directly for massage after a crash. See every insurer we bill. **What is an RMT?** A registered massage therapist (RMT) is a regulated health professional who assesses and treats the muscles, fascia, tendons and ligaments. In BC, RMTs register with the College of Complementary Health Professionals of BC. Registration is what makes treatment eligible under most extended health plans. **Do I need a referral for massage therapy?** No. You can book an RMT directly. Some extended health plans ask for a doctor's referral before they reimburse massage therapy, so check your plan's wording before your first visit. **Does ICBC cover massage therapy?** Yes. ICBC pre-approves up to 12 registered massage therapy sessions in the first 12 weeks after a crash, with no referral needed. We bill ICBC directly. Your first ICBC massage visit is fully covered; later visits carry a user fee, confirmed when you book. More about ICBC treatment. **Do you offer deep tissue and sports massage?** Yes. Van, David and Andrew offer deep tissue and sports massage, and Zarah offers hot stone massage. Your RMT adjusts the pressure to you, and deeper isn't always better: you can ask for lighter or firmer pressure at any point. **What should I wear to a massage appointment?** Wear something comfortable. You only undress to the level you're comfortable with, your RMT leaves the room while you do, and a sheet covers you throughout except for the area being treated. Some techniques work well over loose clothing if you'd rather stay dressed. **Is it normal to be sore after a massage?** Mild tenderness for a day or two after firmer work is common, especially where muscles were tight. It usually eases with gentle movement. Tell your RMT during the session if the pressure is too much, and they'll adjust it. **Do you offer prenatal massage?** Yes. Zarah, one of our registered massage therapists, provides prenatal massage, and we offer postnatal massage too. More about prenatal massage. ### [Altus Integrated Health, McCallum Road](https://altusintegratedhealth.com/mccallum-road/) Altus Integrated Health on McCallum Road, Abbotsford: physio, chiropractic, massage and kinesiology. Free parking, wheelchair access. Book online. **Is there parking at the McCallum Road clinic?** Yes. Parking is free. **Is the McCallum Road clinic wheelchair accessible?** Yes. The clinic is wheelchair accessible. **Are the practitioners different from the Ventura Avenue clinic?** No, it's one team. Our practitioners work across both clinics, so you can book with the location and time that suit you best. **Is the McCallum Road clinic open on weekends?** No. McCallum Road is open Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. For a Saturday appointment, our Ventura Avenue clinic is open Saturdays from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. ### [Physiotherapy in Abbotsford](https://altusintegratedhealth.com/physiotherapy/) Physiotherapy in Abbotsford at two clinics: assessment, hands-on treatment and exercise rehab. No referral needed, direct billing. Book online. **What does a physiotherapist do?** A physiotherapist assesses how an injury or condition limits your movement, then treats it with hands-on techniques, targeted exercise and education. The goal is restored function, such as walking, lifting, working and playing sport with less difficulty, plus a home program that keeps progress going. **Do I need a referral to see a physiotherapist in BC?** No. Physiotherapy in BC is direct access, so you can book without a doctor's referral. Some extended health plans ask for a referral before they reimburse claims, so check your plan's wording before your first visit. **What happens at the first physiotherapy appointment?** It starts with a conversation about the problem, then a physical assessment of your movement, strength and sensation. Your physiotherapist explains the likely cause, starts a shorter treatment and agrees a plan with you. A first physio visit at Altus runs about 40 to 45 minutes. **Is it normal to be sore after physiotherapy?** Yes. Mild soreness for 24 to 48 hours after a first visit is common, because the assessment tests the painful movements and treatment works your tissues in unfamiliar ways. If soreness keeps building past two days, or you notice new numbness or weakness, call the clinic. **How many physiotherapy sessions will I need?** It depends on the injury, how long you've had it and how consistently you do your home program. Recent injuries usually need fewer visits than problems that have lasted months. Your physiotherapist gives you a realistic estimate after the first assessment and adjusts it as you progress. **Do you direct bill for physiotherapy?** Yes. We direct bill most major insurance providers for eligible plans, and we bill ICBC and WorkSafeBC on your behalf for accepted claims. Our front desk can help you check your coverage before your visit. ### [Prenatal massage in Abbotsford](https://altusintegratedhealth.com/prenatal-massage/) Prenatal and postnatal massage in Abbotsford with a registered massage therapist, positioned for comfort at each stage. Direct billing. Book online. **Can I get a massage while pregnant?** Yes, in most pregnancies. Prenatal massage by a registered massage therapist is adapted to each stage, with positioning and pressure changed for your comfort. If your pregnancy is high-risk, or your doctor or midwife has advised you to limit activity, check with them first. **How will I lie down during a prenatal massage?** Usually on your side, with pillows supporting your head, belly and knees, or semi-reclined. Zarah also uses pregnancy pillows with room for your belly, so in the second and third trimesters many people can lie on their front. Later in pregnancy we avoid lying flat on your back for long periods. **Can I have a massage in the first trimester?** There's no good evidence that massage by a trained RMT harms an early pregnancy. Tell us how far along you are when you book, and your RMT will talk through what suits you. If anything about your pregnancy is high-risk, check with your doctor or midwife first. **Can massage start labour?** There's no reliable evidence that massage, including pressure on particular points around the ankles or hands, starts labour. Your RMT still keeps pressure on your legs gentle and avoids deep work on your belly. **Is prenatal massage covered by insurance?** Prenatal massage by an RMT is massage therapy, so extended health plans that cover massage usually apply, up to your plan's limits. We direct bill eligible plans. Some plans ask for a doctor's referral, so check yours before your visit. **How soon after giving birth can I have a massage?** Many people can have a gentle massage within days of an uncomplicated vaginal birth. After a caesarean birth, your belly is avoided until the incision has healed. Check with your doctor or midwife first. Some extended health plans have their own rules for reimbursing claims, so check your plan before your first visit. **How do I know which practitioner to see?** Start with where you are right now, above. If you're still unsure, call us: our front desk regularly helps people choose, and they check with our practitioners when a case could go either way. **Can I see more than one type of practitioner?** Yes. Your practitioners share notes and co-treat when it helps. If your physiotherapist thinks an adjustment would help, they talk to one of our chiropractors about your case before you see them. **How long is a first visit?** A first chiropractic visit usually takes about 20 to 30 minutes. A first physiotherapy visit takes about 40 to 45 minutes. Both start with your history and an assessment, then a plan you agree on. **Do you direct bill?** Yes. We direct bill most major insurance providers for eligible plans, and we bill ICBC and WorkSafeBC on your behalf for accepted claims. ### [Meet your practitioners](https://altusintegratedhealth.com/team/) Meet the chiropractors, physiotherapists, registered massage therapists and kinesiologist at Altus Integrated Health's two Abbotsford clinics. ### [An Luu, physiotherapist](https://altusintegratedhealth.com/team/an-luu/) An Luu is a physiotherapist and co-owner of Altus Integrated Health in Abbotsford, with training in manual therapy and IMS.
